Last week Capricorn Group employees warmed the hearts of many when they went the extra mile for vulnerable children in our communities through a Winter Warmer campaign and a Rugby Coaching initiative. Capricorn Group has become synonymous with employee volunteerism, as Group employees continuously challenge themselves to actively become ‘changemakers’, igniting positive change within local communities. The two initiatives of the past week were enabled by almost 60 volunteering staff members in conjunction with two different charity organisations that the Group’s corporate social investment programme currently supports.
‘Step out of Poverty through Education, Encouragement and Support (SPES)’, a charity established to serve our country’s less fortunate children and youth made it possible for Capricorn Group to support their “Winter Warmer” campaign, during which uniforms were donated to schools to help vulnerable children keep warm this winter. On Thursday, 16 May, 40 Volunteers of the Group staff assisted SPES in the delivery of these winter uniforms to the children of Hendrina pre-school and Nairenge pre-school in Okuryangava, and Maria pre-school in Havana.
On Saturday, 18 May 2019 Capricorn Group employees, in their role as changemakers, had an enjoyable sports day with young boys from schools in Katutura, Otjomuise and Khomasdal who participated in an initiative called “Rugby Kidz for Christ” hosted at the Bethold Himumuine Primary School. The project is an Imago Dei project and illustrates a passion for the youth of Namibia while using rugby as a tool to interact with disadvantaged children and guide them in character development. Rugby and other interactive fun games were the focus of the day.
“As corporates, we don’t just aim to make an impact on the economy; we want to better the lives of others,” said Hellmut von Ludwiger, Group Company Secretary, who also joined in as a Changemaker in the community outreach. “Being part of this engagement made me realise that we are doing just that. It is liberating to know that all our efforts and hard work are making a difference in the lives of those who need it the most,” he added.
