The Capricorn Foundation has renewed its partnership with the African Leadership Institute (ALI) with a donation of N$480,000.00 to support the second cohort of 29 principals and school leaders in their pursuit of a two-year certificate in Transformational Leadership.

The Capricorn Foundation first partnered with the African Leadership Institute in 2024, donating N$480,000.00 to support its initial cohort of 19 principals and department heads, who have now completed the course. To date, the Capricorn Foundation has supported 48 school leaders and contributed a total of N$960,000.00 to the project.

Marlize Horn, Executive Director of the Capricorn Foundation, said, “The Capricorn Foundation commits to supporting leadership training as part of our Education Focus Area. As Connectors of Positive Change, we believe that investing in education extends beyond learners; it is equally vital to empower school leaders to reach their full potential. By doing so, we create a ripple effect that positively impacts the lives of the Namibian child."

ALI is a Namibian non-profit organisation dedicated to equipping and developing leaders to transform Africa. Its vision is to bring transformation to Namibia and the continent by inspiring individuals to lead change, solve challenges, and become a beacon of hope.

The Certificate in Transformational Leadership is an NQA-accredited programme that aims to equip leaders to improve learner outcomes and strengthen school management. It equips individuals with the resilience, vision and skills necessary to drive sustainable transformation in their sector. Participants leave with a written, detailed action plan to bring positive transformation in Namibia's education sector.

Dr Chrisna von Gericke-Fourie, COO and Training Manager at the African Leadership Institute, said, “At ALI, we inspire and enable leaders to lead powerful transformation in their personal lives, in their relationships at work and at home, in their performance in the workplace and in their community.  We equip and develop leaders with soft hearts, tough minds, upright characters and skilful hands to transform Africa.  We develop leaders who are brave enough to address the needs but remain humble in doing so."

Mr David Mushaandja, Principal at Ekulo Senior Secondary School in the Oshikoto Region, said, “As a result of the ALI training, together with all my staff and school board members, we developed High Level Statements for the school, i.e. Vision, Mission, Core Values, Mandate and Motto. All our actions became geared towards the attainment of these. The academic performance of the school has improved, and last year (2024), our school was ranked number 8 nationally in the Grade 11 external examinations and Number 9 in the Grade 12 external examinations among public schools. Regionally, our school was rated Number 2 for Grade 11 results and Number 1 for Grade 12 results."
